Publishing and submission

How do I submit my manuscript?

You can submit your manuscript directly through Quibble’s submission flow on the website.

Is there an age limit to submit?

To submit your work to Quibble, you must be over 18 years of age. Please see Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.

Are there length requirements?

Yes. For novels and serialized fiction, a minimum of your first three chapters is required. There is currently no upper limit.

What happens after I submit?

Your work enters our editorial review process, where it’s read and evaluated by our editors. They come to a consensus as to whether your story is a good fit for Quibble based on the prose, structure, and overall potential.

How hard is it to get accepted?

If your story has heart and effort, we’re listening. We care more about human origin, progress, and commitment than perfection. However, we do still require that your manuscript meet a baseline standard of quality. Stories must be grammatically legible and have a coherent plot in order to be accepted to Quibble.

Does my book need to be finished to submit?

No. Work-in-progress submissions are welcome, as long as you’re actively writing your story.

Do I have to finish my story after publishing it?

You’re not contractually required to complete a story. We understand that not every project reaches the finish line. That said, Quibble is built around a strong reading experience, and unfinished works can impact that. We expect authors to publish with intent and follow through where possible. If a story is clearly abandoned, its visibility will be impacted.

How long does the editorial review take?

Review times vary depending on submission volume. We know waiting isn’t fun, so we aim to get back to you as soon as reasonably possible. Review generally takes 1-2 weeks.

What happens if my submission isn't accepted?

In this case, your story won’t be published on Quibble. Where possible, we aim to share brief context around the decision, but we can’t guarantee detailed feedback for every submission.

Can I resubmit if my story is rejected?

Yes. If you’ve meaningfully improved or reworked your story, you’re welcome to submit it again after three months.

Can I edit my story after it's published?

Yes. You can make updates to your story after publication, as long as they remain within our content guidelines.

Why do you curate submissions instead of accepting everything?

Curation allows us to maintain a consistent standard and protect the overall experience for readers and authors. It also helps us keep the space AI-free.

What are the most common reasons for rejection?

The most common reason for rejection is that the manuscript is not grammatically sound. We recommend that you pass your work through a basic spell check or grammar check before you submit. We also reject stories with no clear direction or plot, or that contain harmful messages.

What makes a story right for Quibble?

Originality, clarity of voice, and a strong sense of intent. We’re not looking for perfection, but the work needs to feel considered, complete in direction, and worth a reader’s time.

Why do you need a synopsis?

A synopsis is required so that our editors can better understand your submission, including its themes, structure and overall direction.

Does my manuscript need to be edited?

Your manuscript does not need to be professionally edited, however, our editorial team notices effort and attention to detail. It is highly recommended that you edit your work or have a friend proofread it before you submit.

I'm not sure my writing is good enough.

Quibble’s intent is to support growing authors. If you are passionate about your work, your effort will be noticed. Everyone is welcome to apply, and if you aren’t accepted, rejections aren’t permanent. We actively encourage authors to resubmit their work after taking some time to develop and refine their manuscript.

I write in a niche subgenre.

Quibble does not curate stories according to current trends. Stories of all genres are welcome here, as long as they meet our quality standards and content guidelines.

English isn't my first language.

We don’t expect perfection; everyone makes mistakes. Word processors, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs, often have automatic spelling or grammar checkers built-in. These tools can be immensely helpful in preparing your work for submission. We don't currently have the capacity to accept stories in other languages, but English translations of your work are very welcome.

Do I need a cover before submitting?

No. You can submit your work and begin the submission process without a cover. However, you will need an original cover for the publication.

Do you provide cover design support?

We’ve built a network of vetted artists on Discord that authors can connect with for cover and any other visual elements for their work. Quibble does not directly provide, manage, or guarantee these services. All agreements, communication, and outcomes are handled directly between authors and artists. Quibble is not responsible for the terms or results of these collaborations.

Will editors change my story?

No. We don’t rewrite or change your story. Our role is to evaluate, maintain quality, and over time, support authors with feedback. It is not, however, to alter their voice or vision.

How much control do I keep over my book?

You keep full creative control.

Do I keep the rights to my story?

Yes. You retain full ownership of your work at all times. We take minimum rights required to operate Quibble. Publishing on Quibble does not transfer your rights to us.

Can I publish my story elsewhere as well?

Yes. You’re free to publish your work on other platforms or pursue traditional publishing opportunities at any time.

Can I remove my story from Quibble?

Yes. You can request removal at any time. Once requested, your story will be taken down after a short wind-down period (30–45 days) to ensure a smooth experience for readers.

What happens if I remove my story?

Your story will no longer be available on Quibble and your license with us ends. Existing promotional materials or excerpts may remain. Monetization stops at the time of your request.

What rights am I giving Quibble by publishing here?

You grant Quibble a non-exclusive license to publish, distribute, and promote your work on our platform. This is only for as long as your story is live on Quibble and does not transfer ownership.

My book is already on Amazon (KDP).

Using KDP to sell your e-book doesn’t make Amazon the owner of your work. Your book can remain on Amazon while also being published on Quibble (or elsewhere). As long as you own the rights to your book, you’re free to submit it to Quibble.

I enrolled in KDP Select.

Amazon tells authors: “If you agree not to distribute your e-book elsewhere for 90 days, we’ll give you extra visibility.” This applies only to that format and time period. Once the 90 days end, or if you choose not to renew, the e-book is no longer exclusive. You can submit your book to Quibble during a KDP Select period and, if accepted, start on Quibble once the period ends while keeping your book on Amazon.

My book is on Wattpad, Royal Road, or a similar platform.

You can still submit to Quibble, as long as you retain the rights to your work. Some programs, like Wattpad Paid Stories or Royal Road’s premium programs, require you to grant exclusive distribution for a period of time. Outside of those programs, your story remains yours and can be shared elsewhere.

I'm waiting for my ISBN.

An ISBN is a standardized identifier that helps bookstores, libraries, and distributors track a book worldwide. You don’t need one to submit or publish on Quibble. Being in the process of obtaining one (for example from Amazon KDP) will not delay your publication on Quibble.

My book is already on Apple Books, Kobo, or Google Play.

These stores do not claim ownership of your work, and listing on them does not create exclusivity. What matters is that you hold the rights to your book. Quibble can be another place for readers to discover your story.

Can I pitch my story to agents or publishers once it gets published on Quibble?

Yes. Publishing on Quibble doesn’t prevent you from pursuing traditional publishing or representation.

What counts as AI-generated content and acceptable AI use?

We uphold the de minimis standards developed by ProudlyHuman™, meaning that authors are only allowed to use AI for limited assistance tasks such as research, grammar checking, outlining, and idea exploration. Submissions that exceed 'de minimis' standards won’t be eligible for publication on Quibble.

How do you verify my book is human-written?

Each manuscript goes through both a human editorial review and an independent authorship certification check before being approved for publication.

Do you use my work to train generative AI?

No. Your work is not used for AI training or anything beyond what’s needed to publish and distribute it on Quibble. We take a strong stance against authors’ work being used to train LLMs and other generative AI models.

When do I start earning?

You start earning after you've been accepted into the Monetization Program. Earnings begin from the moment your work generates reader engagement.

How do I track my earnings?

You will be able to track earnings in your Author Dashboard. It will show your monthly engagement, your calculated earnings and your total accrued balance.

Is monetization guaranteed?

No. Earnings depend entirely on reader engagement which can change monthly. There are no fixed payouts or minimum income guarantees.

What determines how much I earn?

Your earnings are based on two elements: how much reader engagement your work generates and a monthly adjusted payout rate. The payout rate is adjusted based on Quibble’s overall funds available for the Monetization Program.

Can my earnings change over time?

Yes. Earnings can increase or decrease. We may adjust how engagement is measured over time to reflect changes in reader behavior, improve fairness, prevent abuse, align with new features and formats, and make earnings more accurately tied to reader interest.

Do you accept fan fiction?

We’re currently not equipped to accept fan-fiction. This might however change in the future.

Do you accept short stories?

Yes, provided they meet our quality standards and minimum content requirements. Short story collections and anthologies are also welcome.

Can I publish experimental formats?

Potentially. We’re open to different formats, but they are reviewed case by case. The key criteria are quality, originality, and whether the format fits the Quibble reading experience.

Why did you build Quibble?

Creative industries are entering a phase where it’s harder to tell what’s made by people and what’s generated by machines. That lack of clarity erodes trust and long-term value. We don’t think that’s a future worth accepting. Quibble is our way of protecting human storytelling.

What is Quibble building toward?

We’re building toward a future where creative works can be trusted to be human-made. This standard is enforced through strict internal rules around AI use. When you read on Quibble, you know exactly what you’re engaging with.

How can I support Quibble's mission?

Subscribe to Quibble+ and read on Quibble. Every read supports the authors behind the work and strengthens the ecosystem we’re building. The more people choose human-created stories, the stronger it becomes.

Are you anti-AI?

Quibble is not “anti-AI” in the larger sense. AI is ubiquitous, from navigation systems, to search engines, to medicine. It’s a tool that, when used ethically, can help humanity and save lives. What we stand against is the unethical use of AI, and in particular generating human-like creative outputs and passing it off as human work, thereby devaluing authentic creativity. We believe there’s a crucial distinction between asking a tool for synonyms suggestions or having it write entire passages.

What happens if AI-generated content is found in a published book?

By publishing on Quibble, authors get a ProudlyHuman™ certificate for their work. This certificate guarantees that the content is human authored and respects the de minimis standard. If content exceeding the de minimis standard is identified in a published work, we will contact the author to discuss our findings before any further action is taken. Depending on the outcome, the ProudlyHuman™ certificate may be revoked and the book removed from the platform. Repeated or deliberate violations may result in a ban from Quibble.

What does it mean to be ProudlyHuman certified?

A ProudlyHuman™ certificate indicates that a work meets the de minimis standards for human-created content. In particular, it certifies that the story was created in line with our rules around AI use and transparency.

Can I use AI tools while writing?

Yes, please refer to the de minimis standard to see what acceptable use of AI looks like.

How is Quibble different from platforms like Kindle, Kobo, or Wattpad?

Quibble is not built around volume. You won’t find millions of titles. We focus on curation, quality, and intent. Every story is selected, and we actively keep low-quality and AI-generated content out. The result is a smaller, more deliberate library.

What exactly do I get with a Quibble+ subscription?

Full access to all published stories on Quibble beyond the first three chapters. With Quibble+ you’re helping sustain a space focused on serious, curated storytelling.

How does subscribing to Quibble+ support authors?
