We have a situation. October. Halloween is coming, our characters are making terrible decisions, and apparently nobody is stopping them. Seems like a good time for a halloween writing contest. Bring your witches, haunted houses, and deeply questionable protagonists.
Meet Creepertober
Creepertober 2026 is Quibble’s first-ever flash fiction writing event. Low stakes, small piece, maybe an hour of writing inspiration. Take it spooky, strange, unsettling, wholesome, ridiculous, or somewhere in between.
This year’s prompt is:
Submissions
October 6 at 15:00 → October 19 at 15:00
Every author can submit one entry only. Your entry can be a single chapter or several, as long as the total stays under 2,000 words.
Submit your story through the event page on the app, either from your main account or under a pen name. Want to experiment anonymously? Go for it. Anonymous entries won’t be linked to your main profile.
Whether you’re a seasoned storyteller or just getting back into writing, this halloween writing contest is your chance to let your imagination run wild.
Voting and Winners
October 20 at 15:00 → October 26 at 14:00
No editorial panel. The community chooses the winners.
During voting week, every reader gets 3 anonymous voting tokens to give to their favorite stories. You can’t stack multiple votes on the same story, so you’ll have to spread the love.

Popular ideas include writing a spooky short story, creating a haunted house mystery, exploring supernatural characters, or putting a Halloween twist on a fantasy world.
A Halloween short story can be anywhere from a few hundred words to several thousand. Flash fiction contests often set limits of 1,000–2,000 words, making them ideal for quick, creative challenges.
You can find Halloween writing contests through writing communities, literary websites, and online fiction platforms. Look for contests with clear submission guidelines, deadlines, and prizes.
